Dream to Reality - Styling Mindy Kaling

Last Friday, Mindy Kaling tweeted this: "Someone please put together a dozen 'stylish outfits you can wear with flats to work' for me? Thanks". So I did just that! I took to Pinterest, created a board titled Styling Mindy Kaling, and provided six pairs of flats, eighteen pieces of clothing, and one statement necklace. From that, I counted at least 43 outfits! I took to Twitter, shared my Pinterest board, and told Mindy to reach out to me. How I would love to hear back from her!

Have you seen the board? If not, here's the link. And, here are a few of the looks I like the most!

Look One:
I love this vegan leather skirt from Shoshanna!! You have to check it out. The design detail is amazing! I thought the skirt would look so chic paired with the cream Parker silk top with metallic piped sleeves. The two-toned Tory Burch flat brings it all together!

 Look Two:
I have a similar pair of pants, as far as color, but I love the slouchy look of these from Hive & Honey! Paired with a boat neck, striped knit top and leopard print flats (both from Kate Spade), it totally takes the slouch up a notch!

Look Three:
This is probably my favorite! I love the lace detail on this top from C.Luce, which is a hot trend for spring! Paired with this A-Line skirt from J.Crew, I would tuck the top in and add a belt! And I love how they styled the skirt from J.Crew with the leopard print flat and I would do that same thing.

This is just the tip of the iceberg! Seriously, check out the Pinterest board and see how many looks you get! And Mindy, email me at anytime! I'm totally ready to style your work looks!

Happy Friday!
XOXO

Is This Stripe Caramel or Camel

Jacket: Levi's; Dress: L.L. Bean; Booties: Tory Burch; Belt (worn backward): Anthropologie;
Tights: ? Handbag: MARC by Marc Jacobs; Necklace: Banana Republic;
Bracelets: Ralph Lauren/J.Crew

I've said it before and I'm still on the look out for an amazing caramel/camel leather jacket! Instead of the denim, which I love, I'm thinking a buttery leather jacket would have added some richness to this look.

I also think it's time to invest in either new tall or short brown boots! This Dream to Reality item is no longer available, but I do have my eye on these Rebecca Minkoff booties! (Yes, I have the black.) And, since I love the black so much, I know I would love the brown. P.S. They're on sale....

No Lumberjack Here!

Coat: JC Penney (gift/old); Sweater: Ann Taylor (old); Denim Shirt: J.Crew Factory;
Skirt: Helmut Lang via Gilt; Boots: Nordstrom; Tights: We Love Colors; Lip Color: MAC Dark Side;
Gloves: Target; Earrings: Silpada: Bracelets: Tiffany/Gorjana/Gift

To say that Monday was freezing is an understatement. And to say that I was incredibly brave dumb to take my coat off to grab a photo would be another understatement! I told my dad that morning that getting dressed in this weather is impossible. How do you dress for warmth without looking like a lumberjack?

 I really wanted you to get the full effect of the look. I know you think I'm crazy for wearing a skirt when it's 15 degrees out, but honestly tights can be warmer than jeans and pants. I rediscovered this sweater the other day, but remembered why I shy away from it in the winter. Because it's short sleeved, I decided to layer my trusty denim shirt for warmth. Bulk aside, I really like this winter weather look. And I didn't have to dress like a lumberjack! (No offense to any lumberjack's that read this post!)

Cobalt + Gray = Super Foxy

Jacket: INC. via Macy's (similar); Sweater: Magaschoni (similar); Scarf: Sole Society (c/o);
Jeans: LOFT (similar); Shades: Prada; Wedges: Sam Edelman (similar)

We had spring like temps on Sunday, which turned to arctic weather on Monday, so I took full advantage! I went sockless, needed only a leather jacket, and amped up the look with my fabulous fox scarf! Sunnies, lip gloss, and a phantom black object in my photos, and I was ready to go! (The phantom object was our flag that I could not crop out....)

Saturday Stripes

 Sweater: Ann Taylor (old); T-Neck: J.Crew; Jeans: LOFT; Sneakers: Target; Earrings: Silpada

Saturday was a laid back day spent with family. I started the morning off cooking a traditional Southern breakfast, post to come on Krasnow Living, and I wanted to be comfortable while in the kitchen. I thought we would spend the rest of the day running errands, but instead it was followed by a family nap! I love napping in a comfy sweater that feels just like a blanket!

The Midi Skirt

 Top: J.Crew (gift); Skirt: ASOS; Tights: We Love Colors; Pumps: Sam Edelman;
Belt: ?; Shades: MARC by Marc Jacobs; Lip Color: NARS Shanghai Express;
Necklace: Jane Basch (gift) Gloves: Target

Several months ago I blogged about the midi skirt in my weekly Dream to Reality segment. At the time, I had my eye on a floral version, but when I finally made the investment, I went for a black. To test out a trend, one that's still very hot, I decided that I should go for a more basic color. A color that allowed me to trial the item and to see how many times I could style it. (In all honesty, I wish I had gone a size smaller. This has an elastic waist and I felt it was a little too roomy.)

I knew immediately that I wanted to pair this top with the skirt. I just love the playful print and thought it would amp the basic black. I tried several shoes and decided that the suede version really helped lengthen my leg. A patten leather version was too shiny and seemed to cut off the look. I'm thinking for future stylings of pairing it with this sweater, this jacket, and possibly this t-neck. And, I'm thinking of going for a more bold print next time around! Hello spring....

Styling a White Button Down

A white button down has always, in my opinion, been synonymous with a business suit. But it has evolved so much over the years. Sure, you still wear one when you want to look professional, right? However, I love pairing mine with a pair of slouchy boyfriend jeans and either flats or heels. And recently, we've seen it paired under glamorous gowns during award season!

Julia Robert wore hers with a gorgeous, basic black Dolce & Gabbana gown. A sweeping updo, crystal belt, and famous smile took that button up, well, up a notch!

Olivia Palermo wore a simple, white button up with a girly black cocktail dress for Paris Fashion week. This LBD, covered in sweet rosettes, was the perfect canvas for this trending look!

Jessica Alba wore a silkier version with a gorgeous sequin skirt to the Alma Awards back in September. Those amazing beachy waves keep the look low key, while still looking stunning on the red carpet!

Remember, though, Sharon Stone was the first to introduce this look back in 1998. She paired her husband's button down with a Vera Wang silk skirt and rocked the look with that amazing cropped hair and bold red lip!

So now that you have the low down on the button down, how to you plan to wear yours? My mind is racing with ideas, however ironing it is not high on my priority list! This is one major reason I don't wear mine. But, if it assures a red carpet look on a random Thursday, I'm in!
