Target Style

Romper: Target; Sneakers: Target; Handbag: Pour La Victoire (similar);
Hat: Target (similar); Shades: ULTA (similar); Necklace: Jane Basch (gift);
Earrings: BaublesbyAndrea via Etsy; Bracelets: Self-Made

As I was walking around Target on a Sunday afternoon, which I often do as my "mommytime", I found this darling romper! It was 20% off and the last one! Kismet? I think so!

It's such a great piece! The fabric is a super soft cotton and incredibly comfy!! I love the drapey neckline which lends this piece to something dressy for date night! But, it was also perfect for a day at the zoo. I decided to go with my gray tennies for all the walking and my fedora to shield the sun!

Styling this for an afternoon was the perfect choice and I can't wait to style it with heels and fun jewels for date night! Would you wear a romper for day or night?

Making Vintage Modern

To: Vintage J.C.Penney (similar); Shorts: Target (similar): Sandals: Tory Burch (similar);
Bag: Kate Spade (similar); Earrings: Gorjana; Shades: MARC by Marc Jacobs;
Lip Color:  Ruby Opera L'Oreal Extraordinaire (c/o PeopleStyleWatch)

I'm going to be honest. I purchased this top several years ago as a costume piece. I wore it for a party and then put it away in the costume trunk for another day. When cleaning out said trunk, I pulled out this top and immediately wondered why I ever thought of it as just a costume piece! It may be vintage, but it's still so chic and current!

I first tried pairing it with my beloved denim cutoffs, but it just didn't look right. The volume of the top mixed with the wide leg cutoffs, it created a little too much width. I grabbed my white shorts and it was a perfect combo! I added fun sandals, gold dangle earrings, and a summery bag for a very modern day look. I love when vintage doesn't look vintage at all! I my book, vintage equals timeless!

Would you guess that this top was vintage? Let's discuss!

Vintage Floral

Jacket: Vintage Levi's (my moms/similar); Tee: Cynthia Rowely via TJ Maxx (similar);
 Skirt: Self-Made (similar style); Sandals: Sam & Libby via Target (similar);
Handbag: Kate Spade; Necklace: Ann Taylor (similar); Belt: Target

 I have always been a huge fan of late 60s fashion. Shift dresses, bell bottoms, A-Line skirts, bold florals, and jumpsuits. Seriously, if I were a part of that fashionable period, I'm pretty sure I would have rocked it out daily! Lately, I've been pulling out my bold florals and loving every loud moment! My mom and I purchased this fabric at least three years ago and have been dying so fearful of cutting it! We knew we wanted to make this skirt with the fabric, but we were so unsure of how to lay out the fabric, as well as laying the pattern out, in case the flowers and stems never met up. Finally, my mom said "just cut it" and I did! The floral pattern couldn't have matched up any better!!

I couldn't be more in love with this skirt than I already am! I received so many compliments from random strangers when I wore it which made the skirt mean even more. No one could believe we made it! They thought it was vintage, an amazing compliment, and loved how I styled the whole look. If only I could have worn this decades ago!

Under Ten Dollars

Dress: H&M (try the store/similar); Shoes: Burberry via Shopbop (similar);
Belt: Ann Taylor; Shades: MARC by Marc Jacobs;
Necklaces: The Zoe Collective/Stella & Dot 1/2); Earrings: Stella & Dot
Bracelet: JewelMint

Last night I met some blogger girlfriends for coffee at Parisi in Park Place to do a little brainstorming, creative work, and gabbing. It was literally 9:00 when we looked at our phones and realized we had been at it for almost three hours!! We headed for burgers and continued to chat for another hour. I love when you lose track of time because you're having so much fun!

 I am in love with this little sundress! It's from H&M and was $9.95! That's right! I said $9.95! It's so comfy and can literally be dressed up or down. I'm thinking morning/afternoons at the zoo or the Deanna Rose farm, nights out with the hubs, or to one of the many concerts we have coming up this summer. Shoes were probably the hardest to style, but I'm loving how these look. It keeps the whole tribal vibe going. I added a belt at the waist and tons of gold jewels! I honestly felt like a million bucks when I actually only paid $10!

This is Style My Way....

Top: LOFT; Jeans: LOFT (on major sale); Sandals: Sam & Libby via Target (similar);
Backpack: Coach (similar); Shades: Prada; Earrings/Rings: Gorjana (1/similar);
Bracelets: Stella & Dot/BaubleBar (similar/similar)/Forever 21 (similar)

Yesterday was the hottest day so far this summer, reaching nearly 100 degrees, so I decided it would be an indoor activity day. I took McKinley to see Plans: Fire and Rescue, which I think I liked more than him. I don't know about you, but when I go to the movies during the summer, I absolutely freeze! I feel like the air condition is cranked to lowest point so I always have to layer! Hence jeans in 100 degree weather!

But, they're white jeans so I'm going to cut myself some fashion slack! And speaking of cutting myself fashion slack, I'm breaking out my darling floral top. It's a peplum top from last season, and they say that peplum's are on their way out, but that's okay with me. I'm getting weary of dressing based simply on what's in and what's out. If this blog is going to be titled Style My Way, then I should dress my way, right? So in and out lists be damned! I'm going to wear my peplum!

What do you think of fashion in and out lists? Do you follow them to the letter or wear what you feel?

Have a good one all!

Let's Go Swimming - My Pool Must-Haves

I've been spending a lot of time at the pool this summer with parent/tot swimming lessons and family time on the weekends. I love that McKinley loves to swim as much as I do. I was a total fish when I was little, a lifeguard in my teens and all through college, and now I just love splashing around in the water.

And because we've been spending so much time at the pool, I pulled together a style board of all my must-haves! It all starts with the suit! The two featured are from J.Crew. There's a great story behind the return of this suit, read it here, and I'm so happy they reproduced it. I owned a version back in 1989. Mine was a gorgeous melon color and I loved it! I have both colors and they are so vibrant! Perfect for summer.

I've always been a fan of a cover-up that doesn't really look like a cover-up. I've normally worn cute little dresses or shorts and cute top, but this summer I've fallen in love with a simple tunic. It's half dress/half top and the look is so simple yet so chic. Paired with a really cute pair of flip flops and you're done! But I also love a basic denim short with just the suit and flip flops. And as you know from last week's post, I'm in love with my Rachel Zoe pair!

So now you have the suit, the cover-up, and flip flops. Now, you just need something to put it all in. There is nothing better than a bright tote! I love this lime green one! And the pattern is one my favorites right now. I also stash sunscreen (Hawaiian Tropic has always been my go-to), cute shades like these aviators, and a great read. I've always been a fan of romance novels, but in the summer they are simply the best no brainer reads, right? I honestly have no time to read at the pool anymore, I'm too busy keeping an eye on my little one, but I did just read this Danielle Steele novel Happy Birthday and I loved it.

Check out my style board below! And, as always, shop the links! You won't regret any of these amazing pieces that will get you through the rest of summer!

Colorful Stripes

Top: J.Crew Factory; Shorts: Target; Tennies: Jack Parcell via DSW (similar);
Backpack: Coach (old/similar); Shades: Prada; Hat: Arden B. (similar);
Necklaces: The Zoe Collective/Stella & Dot (1/2);
Lip Color: Laura Geller Beauty Raspberry Roast

Last week we experienced the Summer Vortex and temps literally hovered in the upper 70s/lower 80s. Sure it was a nice change of pace, but we're in July! And, we live in Kansas. I'm expecting high humidity and hot! And, I kind of missed it. But because the temps were so low, McKinley and I took total advantage and did a lot of outdoor activities. Last Thursday we toured the Kauffman Garden, took a Fountain Tour (a made up tour by me where we walk around the Plaza and look at all the lovely fountains), headed to Crown Center for lunch at his favorite restaurant, and continued the Fountain Tour outside of Crown Center.

I was excited to wear my newest stripes from J.Crew Factory. I am in love with this colorful version as I'm heavy on black and navy. Paired with white shorts, the color just pops. I decided to go with tennies, something I rarely do, but with all the walking, they were a must. But I have to say, I love them with this look. Super cute, no? And finally, the return of the backpack. I'm not sure why I don't care this more often. I just brings the whole look together.

 What do you think of our crop of corn? It's looking pretty good, if I do say so myself! And yes, this is in my backyard along the fence row! Corn in the 'burbs!

What are your go-to pieces when out and about during the summer? Stay tuned for my list of must-haves later in the week! Can't wait to share!

Happy Monday!
XOXO

Summer Trend: Ankle Boots with Cut-Offs

There's a big trend in town and it's super chic and cool for summer. It's all about pairing denim cut-offs with darling ankle boots and I love it...on them. I'm actually terrified of the trend for myself. But, there is a part of me that's dying to give it a try. I mean, I have every element in my closet so I wouldn't have to shop for anything. What I'm lacking is confidence! See how the celebs, Heidi Klum, Nicole Ritchie, and Rachel Bilson have styled the trend effortlessly!

So threw together a style board of how I would wear this look. I own the Rachel Zoe shorts featured, and from the day the arrived on my doorstep, I have worn them non stop! (They are literally in the wash every weekend. I just haven't a captured a photo....yet!). With the shorts, I'm thinking cute peasant tops, sleeveless tops, and cute drapey ones as well. The booties can run the gamut. I love the idea of a low cowboy bootie, but the chunky heel of the gray ones are super chic as well.

Tops from J.Crew Factory: 1/2/3
Shorts: Rachel Zoe
Booties from Sole Society: 1/2/3 (on major sale)

What do you think of this current trend? If you own any or all pieces, give it a shot! I think in the coming weeks I'm going to put my nerves aside and just go for it!

Words of Love

Tee:  J.Crew Factory; Skirt: Banana Republic (similar style); Heels: Jimmy Choo; Belt: ?
Necklaces: Silpada/BaublesbyAndrea; Bracelets: All Silpada;
Shades: MARC by Marc Jacobs; Clutch: Milly for Banana Republic;
Lip Color: Ruby Opera L'Oreal Extraordinaire (c/o PeopleStyleWatch)

I was inspired by Kendi Everyday when she wore a cute printed tee with a pencil skirt. I started thinking, I can do that! So I did! At first I was unsure of the combination, but it grew on me. In other words, love! Just like the tee says, in every language.
