At It Again....

Denim Jacket: Levi's; Tee: Kauffamn Stadium Gift Shop; Pants: J.Crew; Sneakers: Converse;
Handbag: J.Crew

The Royals keep on winning so I'm at it again with the cute baseball support look! It's definitely a challenge but one I'm loving! I just hope they can keep on winning! I love October baseball!

This is a super easy way to phase out jeans! I love my boyfriend jeans, as you know, but it was time to try something new. I really like how the olive green pants play off the blues and whites. Keeps it fall without feeling heavy! And a denim jacket is always a great addition!

I have a little twist coming to the blog with my Royals flair! This one is going to be tricky.....

Happy Monday!

Let's Go Royals

Top: Piperlime; Skirt: Piperlime; Heels: ShoeDazzle; Handbag: Vintage Gucci;
Necklace: Banana Republic; Bracelets: J.Crew/David Yurman (gifts);
 Lip Color: MAC Ruby Woo

What can I say about Monday? Well, I ran myself ragged all morning and afternoon with trips to the grocery store, drop off/pick up from school, and a trip to Costco. Then it was over to my mom's, with McKinley in tow of course, to watch the rest of the Royals Game Four of the playoffs. What a gut wrenching game! We pulled out the win with a huge comeback and I was a nervous wreck by the time the last out came around. God I love my Royals!!

After that, it was quick change into something cute for a new endeavor. (More on that later.) I wanted to stay in my blues for my hometown team, but didn't want to wear my t-shirt and jeans combo that I had sported all day! Instead, I reached for my faux leather navy skirt, cute striped crop-top, and add yet another vintage Gucci bag to complete the look.

Styling Tip: I want to talk about navy. Navy is so hard to match! Unless it came together, don't try to match. Instead, go with something that has blue in it, like my top. White stripes help break up the navy on navy so you can't tell that they don't really match.

The Skirt: Before and After

Styling Tip Cont: And don't ever try to match your shoes. This grayish pair is perfect! Don't have gray? No worries. Pair the look with black.

If you're here in KC, and a loyal Royals fan, what have you been doing to combat the casual royal blue look? I've loved the challenge and so hope our boys keep the momentum going!

 Let's Go Royals!!

PS....We're moving on to the ALCS! I love my boys in blue!!

Frumpy Chic

Cardigan: My Dad's (cute option); Button Down: J.Crew Factory (similar/on sale);
 Jeans: Loft (similar); Flats: Jessica Simpson (cute pair); Handbag: Kooba (similar);
Necklaces: The Zoe Report/Stella & Dot; Shades: Prada;
Lip Color: MAC Ruby Woo

I'm calling this look Frumpy Chic and here's why. My son had just been diagnosed with strep throat the day before so we were spending the day at home. And what does one wear when home for the day, but you still have some things you need to do? You throw on two of your favorite denim pieces and add a little vintage cardigan that had once been your dad's!

Here's the scenario.... I hadn't showered for two days, my hair was going strong with dry shampoo, I didn't have on one once of makeup until I added lipstick for the photos, I had worked on my DIY aluminum cabinet that afternoon while my mom "entertained" McKinley who had been in timeout twice, and I was heading out for a little mama time right after we took these pics. Hence Frumpy Chic!

I have to admit, I love the look. I've always worried I couldn't pull off denim on denim, but when you add a neutral cardigan and leopard print flats, it's a piece of cake! And a little more chic than frumpy!

The Button Down: Before and After

Cardigan: My Dad's (cute option); Button Down: J.Crew Factory (similar/on sale);
 Jeans: Loft (similar); Flats: Jessica Simpson (cute pair); Handbag: Kooba (similar);
Necklaces: The Zoe Report/Stella & Dot; Shades: Prada;
Lip Color: MAC Ruby Woo

What else should one do to amp up their frumpy look? Add a bold red lip. The guy behind the MAC counter agreed with me when I stopped by to pick up my favorite eye paint. He knew instantly that I was sporting Ruby Woo and said no one can go wrong with a red lip! Even a mom who hadn't showered in two days. That's the power of Frumpy Chic!

And for the record, I showered twice yesterday!

Happy Monday, Fashionista's!

Spring to Fall

Denim Dress: JCPenney (great option); Belt: Ann Taylor (fun option); Heels: Coclico (staple pair);
Shades: Target; Rings: Gorjana (similar); Necklaces: The Zoe Report/Stella & Dot;
Bracelets: Kate Spade/Tulip Boutique; Nail Color OPI Lincoln Park After Dark

I love a piece that can be worn season after season. This denim dress was something I wore in late spring for a day out with McKinley and if it ain't broke.... I wore this dress yesterday for another day out with McKinley and I love that I can take it from spring to fall! Yesterday we went to story time at the library, had lunch with Meme, and then I ventured out to the grocery store while he opted to stay at Meme's and play. I would have chosen that as well! But, having a dress like this to get me through a busy day, just enhanced it's closet power!

I had a hard time styling the shoes. I literally tried on every "fall" pair I could think of that weren't four to five inch heels. I love the booties with dresses/skirt trend, but it cut off the length of my leg, and it left my legs looking stubby. Not a good thing! I'm not ready for tall boots, it just feels too early, but it turned chilly this afternoon, so maybe I should have worn them. In the end, a low neutral heel was the way to go.

Styling Tip: Be mindful of trends. Again, I love the bootie trend that's currently taking place, but be careful of length. A bootie that comes over the ankle, but a skirt that comes to the knee, you run the risk of cutting off half the leg. Don't do it! A tall boot with the same length skirt, that's okay. Just play with proportions and make sure you're showing off those gams!!

 The Dress: Before and After

One more thing, when looking at pieces that you want to take you from season to season, invest in key pieces like a denim dress. What I love about this one is the length, the versatile sleeves that can be rolled up for a 3/4 look or rolled down for a full sleeve. This will be great paired with a chunky sweater and tights. There are so many ways to style it which makes it a wardrobe staple!

Hope your Wednesday is stylin!

Wednesday Wants - Gray Over-the-Knee Boots

Ever since I saw Rachel Zoe in the look below, I haven't been able to stop thinking about over-the-knee (OTK) boots. And we're not talking just any OTK boot. We're talking about thigh high and I am obsessed! I've been searching for about a year for the perfect pair, but nothing has caught my eye....until now!

I've found the six perfect pairs of gray OTK boots that I think would work to pull off this look. I realize her's are more on the taupe side, but I'm thinking gray will go with more of the pieces in my closet. I'm hoping my look comes close. I mean, who can really emulate Rachel Zoe? No one! We've all tried but there's just no second best!
So here is the look I adore!

And here are my picks!

 1/2/3/4/5/6
Aren't they all simply amazing? I love them! I'm especially partial to pair number one from Steve Madden. I love the length and the cool tie in the back. So chic and a little on the tough side, no? Obsessed!
What do you think of my inspirational look from Rachel? A great transition look and could be worn for both fall and spring. This look is the epitome of why I think of her as my style guru. She's flawless!
What do you think of the boots? A style you would consider? Let me know your favs!

One Last Summer Carnival

 Blazer: Loft (cute option); Tee: Target (similar); Jeans: Loft (similar); Sandals: Rachel Zoe (similar);
Shades: Karen Walker via Gilt; Necklaces: The Zoe Report/Stella & Dot; Nail Color: Chanel

A couple of weeks ago we attended Old Settlers Days which is what I consider the end of summer carnival here in Kansas City. And as always, we had a blast! McKinley rode rides, we ate typical carnival food, drank a giant hand squeezed lemonade, and I rode a mama ride that left me dizzy for the rest of the day!

The day started out on the cool side so I went with a cute blazer and boyfriend jeans look. Had I known it would warm up like it did, I would have gone with shorts like in the look below! All was good though. I simply threw the blazer under the stroller and rocked this 3/4 sleeve tee for the rest of the afternoon.

I'm having a blast dressing with this early fall weather! It has me in the mood to move a little further into the sweater department. I'm not ready for tights, but tall boots are just around the corner!

A Little More Edge

I'm pretty sure I'm not alone when I say that sometimes I feel like I need a complete overhaul when it comes to my signature style. I thought I had a handled on it, but over the last six months or so, I feel like I'm in a style rut and need a complete transformation. I feel like most of the time I walk around in a boyfriend jeans haze with no style direction to speak of. There are times when I feel pulled together, like here, here, and here, but for the most part I feel like I look matronly! A look I so don't ever want to sport. So with that, I'm on a secret mission to make some major changes. And, I'm seeking my mother's help! I know you're thinking, "Who asks their mom for style advice?" But this girl does! She's a lot more help than you would think! Seriously, she's the most honest person I know. Sometimes too honest!

So while I work on my secret mission, I thought I would also share some thoughts around adding a little more edge here and there. I'm in serious need of edge! I'm soft around the middle, something I'm working on, but the other edge I'm thinking is in terms of my hair. I've had various hair cuts regarding length, and I've changed my hair color numerous times, but it's just not cutting it. No pun intended. I'm thinking I need something a little more edgy, but I haven't a clue how to achieve it. I always feel so restricted because of my curls. There are times when I simply have to rely on the simplicity of having said curls. Throw in a little curl cream and I'm out the door. But I get tired of that day after day. If I were to go super short, there is no way I could wear it curly so that means I would have to spend time styling it. I honestly don't have the time to sit and style my hair on a day to day basis. I don't really want a wash and go look either. I want something that says chic.

I've been on Pinterest for days looking at short hairstyles and I've found six that I love. They're short, but not too short. They're easily worn, meaning I won't have to style it for an hour before I leave the house. And, I'm thinking I could go curly or straight with very little effort. Some of them you have seen before, I've used them in the past for color options, but I keep coming back to them for a reason. And the reason is because they're so chic. The word I'm looking for in my next hair style.

Now I know what you're thinking. What does Mandana's look have in common with all the others? Nothing really. What I love most about her look are the bangs! I will never get bangs. I don't have the face, or hair, for them. But when I daydream about having them, this is the look I would want!

I'm not looking to change my color. If anything, I would take out the ombre and simply go back to a deep brunette. However, I've received so many compliments on the color lately, I'm thinking it might be working for me. As for the actual cut, this girl is ready to make a change. An edgy change for the better!

What do you think of my inspirational cuts? Is there one that you love the most? One you would run out immediately to get? Please share in the comments below. I would love to hear your feedback. I get my hair cut at the end of the month and it can't come soon enough.

As for the secret mission, it all starts next week and I'm so ready to get started. I will be sharing the details with you soon! Stay tuned!

Wednesday Wants - Camo

When camo first came on the fashion scene, I was leery. It just didn't seem to be a trend I could relate to. I related camo to hunting. But, after I saw some of the really cute pieces season after season, I started hunting for my own signature piece! My mom and I made these cute shorts last summer and I'm thinking of taking the extra fabric and making a skirt for fall. However, I've found five items for fall that I'm loving!

Since I have a pair of shorts, and a possible skirt later this month, I think I might go for an accessory! I love the shoes and handbags. I pop of camo can go a long way. Check out my picks below!

1/2/3/4/5

Want to know something super cool about handbag #2? It's reversible! Talk about versatile! Getting tired of the trendy camo print? No worries! Just flip it inside out and it's black! That's a great bang for your buck!
Are you into the camo trend or calling off the hunt? I can't get enough of it and can't decide what to add next!

Happy Wednesday!

Peackock Inspired

 Jacket: My Mom's (similar); Top: Ann Taylor (similar); Shorts: J.Crew Factory (similar);
Sneakers: Converse; Hat: Target; Necklace: Stella & Dot/Tori Spelling via HSN;
 Shades: Karen Walker via Gilt

I mentioned in yesterday's post that McKinley and I spent the afternoon at the farmstead. We visited all the animals around the farm, but the most impressive of the day was the peacock! He was literally strutting his stuff that afternoon with this feathers on full display! He was gorgeous and the colors within his train, bright greens and royals blues, were something of an inspiration. Hence my Sunday look for our family trip to the zoo.

These bright green shorts are pretty close to the greens in that beautiful peacock. And, I just love the color. I had all but forgotten about this striped tee and so glad it has reentered my wardrobe! A perfect combo against a bright color. The denim jacket didn't last very long, it got hot quick, but I don't usually leave home without it. Throw on a hat, sneakers, and a statement necklace, and you're out the door.

The Top: Before and After

Isn't this necklace a stunner? I don't wear it often, it's fairly heavy, but this look needed a little pop of something and this guy totally fit the bill...no pun intended!

Do you ever draw inspiration from nature when putting a look together? Even the backdrop was a perfect setting! Those wild flowers are glorious!

Hope you're having a stylin' day!
