It's a Bird!

Top: H&M (shop local store); Tank: Banana Republic (similar); Boyfriend Jeans: Ann Taylor;
Flats: Tory Burch; Handbag: Pour La Victoire (similar); Shades: ULTA (similar);
Necklace: Jane Basch

On a fountain tour of the Plaza with my son last week, I stopped in H&M on our to the car. Since I was shopping with a three year old, there wasn't much time to actually look around, let alone try anything on! I tried this little top on, over what I was wearing, figuring if it fit over that it would fit over anything!

I wore this last weekend for Father's Day. I wanted something cute, comfy, and cool and I think this totally fit all three requirements. I am in love with this top and I'm sure you can guess why. It has birds on it! I'm a huge fan of birds in print and this one is a great addition to my collection 1/2/3.

Hope you're having a stylin' Monday!

My Favorite Things

Top: Anthropologie; Pants: Ann Taylor; Pumps: Nicole Miller; Handbag: Kate Spade;
Bangles: Mix of Places; Sunnies: Prada; Watch: Gucci (20 yrs old);
Ring: Great Grandmother's Wedding Band

Leave it to Anthropologie to create a shirt combining two things I love: stripes and birds! And, combined with my favorite pants from last season, I would say this is a winning look! I was wide awake early last Tuesday morning when this outfit came to me, however I couldn't figure out the shoe. I thought about my silver pumps, but just thought it needed something more. Voila! My yellow pump. Talk about a zing of color!

I decided to play up the use of yellow by adding a bright yellow bangle to my arm party. I just love the unexpected use of color!

The Pants: Before and After (paired with birds!)

 What do you think of the use of yellow? A great pop or a total ensemble dud? GO!

Happy Monday!

My First ModCloth

Jacket: My Mom's (similar); Tee: StyleMint (similar); Skirt: ModCloth;
Belt: Banana Republic Outlet; Pumps: Banana Republic; Sunnies: MARC by Marc Jacobs;
Bangles: Silpada; Necklace: My Mom's; Lip Color: Clinique Drama Red

A couple of months ago I blogged about the adorable nautical line from ModCloth and the items I was hoping to purchase. Well, I made my first purchase and finally got to wear the bold Chevron print skirt! I love this skirt! The colors are perfect for summer, the print is quickly becoming one of my favorites and it's pieces like this that make me wish I lived closer to the ocean. Can't you see this at a clam bake or sailing around the sea? Since I don't live close to any body of water, other than the public pool, I have alternate plans for styling this skirt!

For this major spring day, temps soared into the 80s, I paired it with the perfect tee from StyleMint. I wish I had ordered at least three because finding the perfect tee is like finding the perfect jean. And because the skirt came from ModCloth, I needed to add a few vintage pieces. My mom's denim jacket and sweet bird necklace were right on the money! And I added a bright red lip because don't all vintage inspired looks need a red lip?

An Illusion

Sweater: French Connection via Rue La La (similar); Pants: Ann Taylor (similar); Scarf: Target;
Shoes: Dolce Vita; Sunnies: ?; Bracelets: Silpada; Lip Color: NARS Shanghai Express

I love my new scarf! Last Friday I had to make two trips to Target and was alone on the second trip. A mini vacation, right? While waiting for McKinley's prescription, I had 10 minutes to wander the store. And wander I did! I wound up in the accessories aisle and found this sweet scarf. I loved that it was navy, a color I didn't have, and it's covered with little red birds. You know my bird fetish. Hate them in real life, love them in fashion.

I wore it over the weekend with a cream fisherman sweater and boyfriend jeans. I loved how casual the look was and how the scarf just added a little something extra. Because I wanted to make the scarf the focal point in this look, I decided to wear all winter white. The scarf gives the look a rich color it needs and the red shoes, well I just love them!

Styling note: If you want to look tall and thin, not that I'm saying I'm thin, but wear all one color from head to two. It gives the illusion of being both! I wouldn't say wear lime green head to toe. Maybe stick with black, gray and winter white!

2012 Year in Review - Spring/Summer

Summer brought brights, neon and birds! Oh, and stripes. I definitely left my love of black in the dust and wore pops of color all season long. If you're going to do it this is the time, right?

The love affair with my red pants was ridiculous! As was the affair with my blue pants! I loved neon yellow more than I ever thought I would. It's a softer hue than expected and pairs well with so many things! There were stripes in black and white mixed with color. And stripes in so many colors!

It also seemed to be the year of the dress as well.

Here is a look back over some of my favorite looks from the summer.

I really look forward to what's on tap for summer of 2013!

The Birds

Top: Anthropologie (similar); Jeans: Loft (similar);
Necklace: Gift; Earrings: Made by Me

This is one of my favorite tops but its been over-looked this summer. I've found that in the oppressive heat we've experienced, I'm reaching for dresses before even looking at jeans. And to me this is a jeans top, or at least that's how I've style it every time I wear it. It was featured on the blog last May, however the photos were horrible so I didn't re-post! If you want to see it styled, check it out here.

Last week was a super down week for me. Crazy emotional and in a funk so deep I couldn't find my way out. And because of that, it was a very casz week, hence all the different versions of denim I sported. And, as my husband pointed out as I got dress, I had on really casual jeans for work. I just wasn't feeling it. But, I do really like this look and plan to wear it again!

 What do you wear when you're in a funk? Is there a staple for down days or do you just hide under the covers and wait for the cloud to pass? I would have loved to do that, but togas aren't really part of the approved wardrobe for work!
