Homemade Bread

I'm continuing my quest of forty before 40 and over the weekend, I learned to make homemade bread. I think its important to continue to make things from scratch and learn new techniques and recipes. I may not have a daughter to pass them along to, but McKinley may want to help mommy in the kitchen some day and his future wife just might be impressed!

Making bread isn't nearly as daunting of a task as I imagined. And, when you look at the calorie count, its actually less than a store bought pack of white bread. Below are the photographed steps of bread making. I'll give a small tutorial along the way!

Combine all purpose flour and yeast in a bowl.

Combine water, sugar, salt, butter and stir. Bring temperature up to 120 degrees.

Mix the wet and dry ingredients together with a mixer for three minutes.

Mix the remaining flour with a wooden spoon until all ingredients have been incorporated.

Once incorporated, place onto a floured surface and kneed for 6-8 minutes.

Eventually, you get this lovely ball of dough and amazing biceps!

Gorgeous!

Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover and put in a warm spot to rise for about 30  or so until it's twice its size. See below!

Punch the dough to let all the air out.

Place dough back on a floured surface. Cut dough in half and cover. Let rest for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, place each piece of dough in a greased bread pan and cover. Let rise for 40 minutes.

Uncover and place in oven to bake for 40 minutes.

The end result!!! Yummy homemade bread ready for buttering! Oh, and don't forget to add the homemade apple butter to each slice!

Simple enough, right? Next up, cinnamon raisin bread! I love baking!
