Something About This Vest

Vest: H&M; Top: Loft (similar); Jeans: Loft (similar); Booties: Vince Camuto
All Jewelry: Stella & Dot

There is something about this vest. I feel like I take better blog pictures just by wearing it. I think it might have something to do with the fact that I'm finding my stride, and voice, when it comes to fashion right now. I've totally embraced BOHO for spring and I hope it continues throughout summer. This style fits me to a tee!

I love everything about this look and I wouldn't change a single piece of it. I'm wondering how this vest will look with a sleeveless jumpsuit or over a dress. I'm also wondering if I can pull it off with denim shorts. I guess there is only one way to find out. Try it all on!

The Vest Before

 As must of you know, I love to layer necklaces and these three are my all time favs! Shop them through my Stella & Dot link here!

We have an extremely busy day today! I have a meeting in the morning, possibly two, and McKinley has a Kindergarten assessment in the afternoon. Then we have book club tomorrow night. I can't wait for a little Cinco de Mayo beer tasting, fun conversation around a crazy book, and simply hanging out with the gals! I love days like this!

Hope you're having a stylin' week!

West Bottoms

Vest: H&M; Tee: Target; Jeans: Loft (similar); Booties: Vince Camuto;
Handbag, Shades, and Jewels: Stella & Dot

A couple of weeks ago my mom, McKinley, and I loaded up and headed down to the West Bottoms for a little site seeing. My mom had never been and McKinley had been dying to go down and see the old rail road tracks and old buildings. My mom and I wanted to check out some of the stores as we're debating setting up a booth in one of the retailers. We found the perfect one! Not sure if we will really take the plunge, but I am all about taking a leap this year! No matter what, the weather lent itself to an awesome afternoon of walking around.

This is piece number three from the H&M shopping spree! I am digging these long BOHO pieces! This green vest was the first thing that caught my eye and you can totally see why, right? The color, the design, the style.... The reasons are endless and the amount of times I plan to wear it are endless as well. Such a cool vest!

By the way, the t-shirt has become my second skin! I got this from Target from the Who What Wear line and I wish that I had purchased 10 more! It's linen and it's absolute perfection. The color, the length, the fit, and ease are all the reason to order one for yourself! You won't regret it!

Look at me starting off the week with a blog post! Feels good. Almost as good as that tee!

Happy Monday, Fashionista's!

Wednesday Wants - The Gladiator Sandal

I am in search of the perfect Gladiator sandal and apparently, I'm pretty picky when it comes to the right style! It needs to be brown. I don't think I want the kind that laces all the way up my leg, unless I try it on and love it. I'm thinking I want it more ankle length but with laces up the foot to the ankle. But I also love the look of a simple leather criss-cross style with a little detail. Sounds kind of specific, huh?

Turns out, there are five that fit my requirements, but not sure they are in stores. I kind of need them now. I have a dress I'm dying to style them with, so I need to be able purchase and bring home. It's no secret that I'm in love with the BOHO look that's currently on trend, and I just picked up a darling white lace dress from Tulip that I think needs this style sandal to achieve the look I'm going for. Let's hope I can find them soon!

Here are my five picks! I'm loving the pink in the center and the Rachel Zoe nude flat. Check them out!

I also love these and these for a heeled option! So many shoes so little time!

Happy Wednesday!!!

BOHO Girls Night Look

 Top: Anthropologie (similar); Tank: Banana Republic; Shorts: Rachel Zoe via Gilt (similar);
Sandals: Target (similar); Bangles: Gift; Shades: MbyMJ; Handbag: MbyMJ

Tuesday was a busy outdoor day around here. Why? Because it didn't rain! It poured the night before, so we were unable to plant in the big garden, but McKinley worked all day with Granddaddy to plant potted flowers for our front stoop. So while they potted, I weeded. The weeds are taking over everything! I also baked up a little dessert for a Bachelorette viewing with my girlfriend later that night. A busy day!

So when it came to my final look for the evening, I went super casz. Now that it's finally warm enough to wear shorts, I immediately reached for my favorite pair! The top is a piece I've had forever! Okay, maybe four years, but in wardrobe years that's forever! I finished it off with cute sandals and wooden bangles. Nothing better than a little BOHO on a Tuesday night!

Short weeks always through me off! I can't believe it's already Thursday. The weekend is right around the corner! Made any good plans yet?

Fashion, 1968 and Rachel Zoe

This weekend the revival of HAIR is coming to town and I am so excited! I've seen the movie, but there is just something about live theater! HAIR, written in the time of the late 1960s at the height of the Vietnam War, is about hippies protesting the war while living among "free love", in short. Aside from the iconic songs in the show, what I'm most excited about it is the costumes! This is a style that I love and identify with the most!

I've been thinking about what to wear, in an homage to the show, but I want to keep it chic. Do I go mod or hippie? I don't want to look like a walking billboard or that I'm wearing a costume. I don't want to go casual as I am a full believer that when you attend the theater you attend in style! So, how do I incorporate 2013 clothing into something dressy/BOHO chic?

When talking to my mom about what she wore in 1968, her response was "I owned a lot of shift dresses, skirts and sweater sets. I had a long sleeved, black, pinstripe dress with leather collar and cuffs with self-belt." She made the transition to bell bottoms, jumpsuits and tall boots around l969 or '70. An enviable closet that I would love to have today! My mom was so chic!

For a modern take on the late 60s/early 70s, I am also inspired by Rachel Zoe and her amazing way of creating BOHO looks that are always on trend, always sophisticated and can be worn day or night. Here are just a few of my favorites.

 So, how do I recreate these looks with pieces from my closet? And, how can I make them work for the show on Saturday? (I should mention that we have matinee tickets which makes a difference in how dressy I will go.) It's all about finding the right piece, layering and adding the perfect accessories. From the photos above my must-haves are: a maxi dress, wide-leg jeans, a tailored jacket and amazing accessories.

I'm thinking I will try to recreate the maxi dress with leather jacket. I have some to chose from and here's how I've worn them.

I'm also thinking of working in the jumpsuit below. Add a black t-neck over the top to create a two-piece look and add leather jacket for layers.

A look back on how I wore it in Vegas.

What are your thoughts in dressing for this occasion? Would you match your attire to meet the theme? Is BOHO a continued fashion statement or one that ended in an era long ago? Let's chat!

Happy Monday!
