Sorry that I was MIA yesterday. A sick household does not bode well for blogging! In any event, this is my outfit from Friday. I love jeans day Friday's! I try to push myself to not dress down just because we're allowed to wear jeans. With that being said, this was a little on the casz side because of the boyfriend jeans, but I think the scarf and wedges helped dress it up.

This little sweater is new to the collection and as I put it on Friday morning, my husband said, "that's a cool sweater." Gotta love when the hubs notices something new! Makes you feel a little special. I love the zipper detail which was actually the selling point. And, they really do work! Both from the neck down or the cuff up. And even though there is detail to the sweater, it just needed a little something. This scarf totally pulled it all together. And as for the post title....here's hoping we zip zip through the week!

I discovered these tights when looking for a different pair and thought they would look cute paired with my shorts. A nice twist on just plain black! Also, I really wanted to wear my new BaubleBar necklace so I went with black and gray I love the chunky chain in contrasting "metals" and the fact that it's light as a feather!

I've now styled these shorts three different ways. I need to try and work them in a few more times before spring truly starts! Take a look below and let me know which is your favorite look!

 

My Bad

I told myself that 2012 would bring more to And McKinley Makes Three and well, this is the first post since then! My bad! McKinley has entered his tenth month and so much has happened! I asked him on this ten month birthday what we could expect. I asked, will we see more teeth? Would he learn to walk? Would he ever crawl? Well, he has started cutting two more teeth (four total at the moment), cruises the coffee table at warp speed (nothing on his own) and he finally started the army crawl. I keep telling him he would get places faster if he actually tried crawling on his knees, not slithering the floor on his tummy. Just like any child, he refuses to listen to his mother!

Nine Months

Ten Months

Our first real snow fall came on my mom's birthday and I was so lucky to have the day off to spend with both her and McKinley. We only got a couple of inches, but McKinley was amazed. When I put his little hand in the snow, he gripped it and immediately pulled away looking at me as if I had done something horribly wrong. Priceless indeed! We waited until Daddy got home to put on our snowsuit and if he wasn't the cutest thing I've ever seen! If you don't believe me, just look at him!

First Snow

The following day was his first Valentine's Day and his little onesie says it all! Granddaddy took him to The Guitar Center to pick out his own "guitar" and he loves it! He is a musical child prodigy in the making! Apparently, he entered the store, spotted all the guitars and immediately began to sing. I should probably have professed this by saying he has a music lesson with my dad every morning. My dad plays guitar and they sing. Recently, he started letting McKinley strum hence McKinley's own guitar for Valentine's Day. I love that we might have a musical child in the making. Up next, sports for a very well-roundedness (my own word)!

And boy does he love to play!!! We created a little play area for him in our den and he knows it's his little space to sprawl out and make his own! His favorite thing to do is to get all his toys off of the shelves whether he plays with any of them or not! And, he loves pulling himself up on the second shelf and just stand! We call him "standing man"! If he were a super hero, that would be his skill! STANDING! Kid cracks me up!

Finally, he loves water! Little "waterbug" as we call him. He has these squitters that float around in the tub with him, but he favors the swan. They're little animals, a set of 10, that fill up with water and then you squirt the water out of their mouths. We actually have more fun with them than he does! I would post pics of him in the tube, but I don't want to be brought up for child porn! Just trust me, he loves bath time!

Again, I am going to make a concerted effort to blog more about our adventures. So far, 2012 has been amazing! What I can't believe is that I'm starting to think about his first birthday! I have exactly seven weeks from tomorrow! EEKK!!!! We have a theme in mind, and if the day is pretty, we plan to hit the zoo. We love the zoo! Here's hoping....and planning....

New Favorite

I have decided that my new favorite color combination is olive and navy! And I'm not quite sure why I never thought to wear it together before now. I've worn it in accessories, seen here, and a cute cotton top here, but never in an actual ensemble. As for this skirt, I wore it in early fall and haven't a clue why I haven't worn it since. When I think of winter, my winter rut is to go straight for pants for warmth. I have made a conscious decision to wear more skirts and dresses during the winter month, which forces me to utilize all of my closet. I've been very guilty of that in 2012!

 It's the day after Love Day, but I wanted to blog about my outfit. I know its terribly traditional to wear red, but when in Rome.... My biggest love of this look is the fabulous necklace! I've seen this on several of the bloggers I follow and I had to have one as well. It comes in so many different colors, but I really liked the corals. And, coral and red are hot color combinations right now! Do you feel the love?

Below is another way I wore the look. I really like the addition of the necklace.

Today is Valentine's Day, a day of nothing but love! Here are a few things that made my day this morning! So far so good!

Lucky Magazine's Pants Bonanza

In the March edition of Lucky Magazine, Jean Godfrey-June lays it all on the line (with the help of fashion director Anne Keane and senior fashion editor Elle Strauss) where your pant hem should hit on your shoes. She explores pant styles, hem lengths and the right shoe for the pant in her "Pants Bonanza" question/answer segment. I am going to see how I'm doing based on how I've worn them!

Straight-leg:

I don't think I own a single pair of this style pant. And it's a good thing. According to Anne Keane, the look can go wrong, so "people shouldn't get straight-leg." Glad we're on the same page. If you do own straight-leg pants, they suggest pumps or flats. And the pants should be cropped or cuff. Wait, now that I think about it, I do own straight-leg pants! Here's how I paired them and I got it right! The photo on the left shows flats and on the right, pumps.

 Skinny:

Considered the easiest to style, you can really wear any shoe with these pants. Keane and Strauss state that the skinny "really features your shoe". I haven't really gone out on too many limbs when it comes to the skinny and my shoes. I fall pry to tucking them into tall boots. I have worn them with platform booties and flats, but only while pregnant. Bigger risk taker at that time for some reason!

     

 Wide-leg:

I am a HUGE fan of the wide leg. I live in them. They are comfortable, I feel more stylish and I actually feel thinner when I wear them! Now, Keane and Strauss feel that the hem must skim the floor, and the more worn hem the cooler the pant. I must say, only one of my wide-legs skim the floor. I've never felt more un-cool! And, they insist that the only shoe to wear is a platform. Well, most of my heels are platforms anyway, so I guess I got this one right, to an extent!

 

Baggy/boyfriend:

I won't go into my love of the boyfriend jean as I've raved about it time after time. These must be worn hemmed or rolled up above the ankle. According to Keane, "You have to show some ankle with a baggy, or it just looks enormous and sloppy." The only shoe to wear is a tough feminine shoe and an ankle bootie. No flats, kitten heels or pumps. And, if you do wear flats, the only acceptable one is a sneaker, but remember to show some ankle.

 So, for those of you playing at home, I was almost four for four! I have made some minor mistakes along the way, but for the most part, I'm right on track! How did you fair?
