My Week in Shoes - Last Week

Friday was a vacation day for me and I didn't turn on my computer once. Okay, that's a lie. I turned it on to order Applebee's car-side to go, but that was it! And then I remembered my "Week in Shoes" segment, but was too tired to do anything about it.

So here are my shoes from last week, minus a day! Four Days of Shoes!

Shoes:
Top Left: Nicole Miller; Top Right: Marc by Marc Jacobs;
Bottom Left: Farylrobin; Bottom Right; Tory Burch

Weekend BBQ

We have grown obsessed with playing Cornhole, a real game you can check out here, so we've been hosting several BBQ's just to play! And, we're so obsessed that we now own our own set! (We call it Krazhole!) I thought I would start the Monday off with a post regarding our Saturday afternoon BBQ.

You know me and themes! This BBQ was all about lemons and yellow. The table scape included touches, okay lots of touches, of yellow accents. Canisters were filled with Meyer lemons and lemon drop candies. The tablecloth was a vibrant mix of Popsicles, in three fun colors, and white serving pieces to the focus on the cloth and canisters. However, I did throw in a few yellow pieces for fun.

We served the tradition BBQ flare. Hamburgers, hotdogs, macaroni salad and baked beans. But, I had to mix up dessert. I made homemade banana pudding and these darling lemon drop cookies.

Sweet cookies topped with a lemon flavored glaze and lemon zest for that pop of color.  And anything looks great when placed on a  fun cake plate!

 And what BBQ wouldn't be complete with ice cold beer! We had plenty on hand and in varying varieties. But, we also served iced tea and my great grandfather's lemonade. What I loved were the Ball jars we used as drinking glasses. A little rustic and super chic! And make sure you use cute little bowls for sweetener and lemons!

And some of the fellas playing a rousing game of Cornhole! I believe that fun was had by all! (And don't you love how my husband just happens to be wearing yellow? I don't believe that was truly planned but I liked to believe it was!)

Hope you had fashionable weekend! Happy Monday!

Bedroom Updates - A Sneak Peek

So, I think we have everything we need to start the redecoration process of the master bedroom and I'm so exited!! Here is a sneak peek into details we're adding to our room!

I love this lamp and was so lucky to get the only two left in the store! Purchased from Target, I just know they are going to be perfect bedside lamps!

Right now all of the items are in the corner of our living room! Can't wait to get that messed cleaned up!

Our curtains and rod! Nickel curtain rods, silk blend curtains with grommets! Replacing Roman Shades that currently exist and these feel super chic in our new boudoir!

Since Joel's bedroom is literally off the bedroom, I wanted to update his rugs and towels. These luxury Ralph Lauren towels were purchased at Home Goods and the rugs are from Target.

And finally, here is a little collage of the items that will accent the room. Throw pillows, curtains and towels. Its all in the details! Now, its off to decorate! Can't wait to show you the finished product!

Stay tuned!

Norstrom's "The Perfect 10"

Earlier this week Nordstrom provided us "the perfect 10 summer pieces you need now"! And according to my mom, it seems I've been on trend and its not even summer yet! Sweet compliment! Let's see if its true.

1) White Haute
"From glam watches to cropped jeans, white apparel and accessories are so right now. They look especially fresh worn with a (faux) tan." In my personal opinion, EVERYTHING looks better with a tan! How you get that tan is up to you. I am a sun girl, even though the warnings are staggering. The trend for summer is virtually endless. From watches to jeans to accessories, as long as you own a piece, you are white hot!

2) Easy Cover-Ups
"We've got you covered with glamorous updates on the classic beach staple—in sheer fabrics and ethnic-inspired prints." I always have a cover-up with me! Its like an American Express card. Going to the pool? Don't leave home without one. And I love how the cover-up runs the gamete of possibilities. Loose weave sweaters, oversized button downs, summer dresses or tropical sarongs. You name it, its a cover-up.

3)  Wedges
"Dressed up or dressed down, earthy cork wedges and elevated espadrilles are summer's most versatile shoes." I love wedges and have several pairs! And, I love how colorful they are this season!

4) Shorts
"No longer just for backyard barbecues, shorts in floral prints and sunny solids look pulled together when paired with wedges and a breezy top." I love my floral/abstract shorts from Anthropologie and can't wait to wear them all summer. But, I love my super colorful solids that I just purchased from Target. I wore my lime green ones over the weekend with a navy cardigan. Loved the color block! Sorry, not photo was taken, but you can yours here!

5) Summer Flats
"Comfortable needn't be boring. Slip on a pair of stylish summer kicks, and you'll be ready for anything under the sun." I am not a huge flats girl, but I do love my flat sandals. I mean, my feet do need a break on the weekends, especially in the summers. And, there are so many cute options! For summer, anything goes!

6) Punchy Prints
"Floaty dresses in tropical and tribal prints will instantly put you in a summer-getaway state of mind." I love dresses in the summer. When its too hot for clothes, floaty dresses, in tropical prints, make it feel like I'm getting away. Not stifling in the summer heat that bounces of the black, parking lot pavement!

7) Pop of Color
"Update your summer look and boost your mood with a shot of juicy color, from pool-blue polish to coral lips—the brighter, the better." My pops of color purchases have been just that, nail polish and lip color!

8) Go Everywhere Tote
"Meet your new best bag: an extra-roomy, super-stylish carryall that enjoys both work and play. Just throw it over your shoulder and go." I own entirely too many tote bags but will continue to collect them. Its an extension of my own handbag and McKinley's diaper bag, but super chic!

9) The Boyfriend Shirt
"Meet your new best bag: an extra-roomy, super-stylish carryall that enjoys both work and play. Just throw it over your shoulder and go." Didn't I just say an oversized button-up would make a great swim suit cover-up? And, its on of the top 10 perfect summer pieces! Can't go wrong with this shirt.

10) Retro Spec
"Keep your cool with a pair (or two) of retro-chic shades. Look for oversized and wayfarer styles that evoke an iconic aesthetic." I live in sunnies all year long, but for some reason summer is the time where I try every possible style on and rotate them all season. I love that fact that retro sunnies are hot this year. The 70s were my favorite!

Here are the 10 pieces I'm thinking of toting/wearing/applying this summer season!

Welcome to the Jungle

Top: Ann Taylor; Skirt: Loft;
Shoes: Steven by Steve Madden;
Cuff: ??; Sunnies: Prada (gift)

Okay, so I'm not actually in the jungle. Instead, I'm at the waterfall area on the Sprint Campus. Why did I not know about this amazing place before now? You will definitely see this backdrop in future posts!  Honestly, it was like a little oasis where you could have lunch or just sit and gather your thoughts when needing a change of scenery. Simply lovely!

Again, this look happened by accident. That seems to be happening a lot this week. And by a lot, I mean over the past two days. I started out with my red cropped pants and a sweet, little lace top. Didn't like that combo so I tried the lace top with the black skirt. Didn't like that either. So I started searching for a different top when I found this one. Perfect! The top actually has a large black waist band, but the blacks didn't match, so I tucked it in. I really like how this looks more like a dress than two separate pieces. And the cage(ish) heels brings that whole animal vibe together. You know, tiger in a cage...

The Bees Knees

Top: Kate Spade (gift); Pants: J.Crew;
 Belt: Ann Taylor; Shoes: Nicole Miller;
Bangles: Ralph Lauren; Shades: Prada (gift);
Pendant Necklace: Lord & Taylor (gift);
CZ Necklace (wrapped): Ann Taylor;
Watch: Emporio Armani (gift)

I woke up with a serious case of the Monday's today! We had a huge thunderstorm roll through so the house was unusually dark and all I wanted to do was turn off the alarm and go back to sleep. Instead, I hit the snooze button one too many times and rolled out of bed in a funk. I tried on everything I own, okay not everything, but just couldn't commit to an outfit. Then I saw these yellow shoes and it all came together.

It's a little cliche to wear a bumble bee top with yellow shoes but I don't care. I just needed something cheerful and this fit the bill. And now, its super muggy and sunny! Go figure! Happy Monday!

 And on a huge side note, check out the turnout in one of the photos below! This old dancer chick still has turnout! (Ballerina readers will know what I'm talking about!)
